How To Purify Water? Four Perfect Way To Purify Water

These days, it is extremely necessary to purify water before drinking, as water is a natural solvent, can dissolve almost everything. Due to this nature, water has become the home of various kinds of waterborne disease-causing agents that can be harmful.

If your drinking water is not treated, then read this article till the end, as here we will be discussing how to purify water? Although there are various methods to purify water due to the long list, here, we have listed some crucial and widely accepted methods.

Table Of Content

#1. Treat Water With Heat

Heating water is the best method to purify water. Although it is one of the primitive ways to treat water, still, people practice this when no option is left. Here are few best methods to purify water by using the temperature method

Use Boiling Of Water

Boiling of water is one of the cheapest ways of water purification. By using this method, microbes from water can be eliminated. It is recommended to boil water for 1-3 minutes and then allow it to cool at normal temperature but make sure you have adequately covered the pot after boiling. Once water gets cool, pour clean water using a sieve into the airtight container but before storing it into an airtight container, make sure that the container is clean properly.

People living in high altitude areas are advised to boil water for a slightly longer duration as at high altitude, water starts boiling at a slightly lower temperature. But this is one of the primitive methods to purify water, and these days the water impurities are getting advanced, so it does not quickly leave the water. It is also a time-consuming process, so generally, people avoid this method for water purification.

Use Distillation

It is a process that uses heat to collect clean water in the form of vapor. Distillation is effective as, according to scientific facts, water has a comparatively lower boiling point than the disease-causing contamination present in the water.  To achieve clean water, raw or contaminated water is subjected to a heat source until it attains its boiling point. Gradually water starts vaporizing, and vapor is directed to a condenser to cool, and after cooling, the vapor is reversed into clean and safe water for drinking. And the substances that have a higher boiling point are left as sediment.

Use SODIS

This is one of the compelling methods to purify when you have nothing to purify water or you are on an adventurous trip, and you have no other method to purify water. To achieve water purification, fill a clear and smooth plastic bottle with water. Now twist on the lid, and keep the bottle in the direct sunlight for six-hour as it kills the microbes like bacteria, virus, and parasites. This method works as plastic traps the heat from sunlight inside the bottle, and the UV-A kills the microbes present in water and makes it safe for human consumption.

#2. Treat Water By Using Chemicals

Multiple chemicals are used to treat contaminated water, although you can try using these chemical

Use Iodine

Plain liquid Iodine can also be used to eliminate water impurities as it kills microbes present in the water, but many people do not like the taste of the water purified by using iodine. To treat contaminated water,

  • collect contaminated water and
  • Add 2 percent of iodine solution per litres of water
  • shake or stir the solution properly and
  • Allow it to settle down for 30 minutes
  • Use Bleach

It is also used to eliminate microbial contamination from water as it kills bacteria and viruses from water. Various water treatment experts advise using a small amount to bleach to avoid poisoning. To get the desirable result, ensure that the bleach is not expired. To treat contaminated water

  • Take a jar fill with feed or contaminated water
  • Add 4-5 drops of bleach per 1 liters of water
  • Now shake the mixture properly
  • Allow the mixture to settle down for 30 minutes

#3. Treat Water By Using Technology

When everything is getting modernized, the water purification process has also shifted toward use technology for treating water contamination. And in a concise time, various technology has been introduced to punches out contamination present in the water. Here are some crucial technology which has shown significant impact in treating water impurities so you can

Use Reverse Osmosis

In this technology, water moves from the high contamination side to the low contamination side through a semi-permeable membrane under some external force. The semi-permeable membrane used in reverse osmosis technology has several tiny pores, and these pores only allow water molecules to pass through it. This technology eliminates all kinds of contamination, but it is significantly used in those areas where the TDS concentration is high compare to microbial contamination.

Use UV Technology

UV technology is used to eliminate microbial contamination from the water. This technology uses UV rays with high penetration powder that penetrates the microbial cell and destroys their genetic material. As a result, microbes lose its ability to reproduce and grow. This Doctor Fresh technology is suitable for those where microbial contamination is higher than the TDS concentration.

Use Alkaline Technology

This is another water purification technology that has drawn many people globally. This technology has grown water purification up to the next level. Alkaline technology is used to maintain the pH of the drinking water. pH slightly higher than 7 is suitable for human health.

#4. Treat Water By Using Filtration Method

It is one of the compelling methods to purify water; it uses multimedia filters to eliminate contamination. A filtration uses both physical and chemical water treatment methods, but water treated by this method is entirely safe for human consumption.

This water purification method is suitable for eliminating large and small pollutant molecules present in the water that can be dangerous for humans and may cause severe disease. Compared to other water purification methods, filtration is effective for eliminating selective smaller molecules like chlorine and pesticides. Filtration also does not need much energy, and it is economical too as it recovers maximum concentration of water and wastes only a tiny concentration of feed water.
